The Big Sandy Pioneer football team has playoff aspirations this fall but now stand at 2-2 following another tough loss to a ranked opponent.
The Geraldine/Highwood Rivals raced out to a 24-12 halftime lead and then held on for a 56-42 win over the hometown Pioneers.
The Pioneers have faced two of the top teams in the state the past two weeks and with a young team that gets better with every snap, that experience could bode well for them down the stretch.
Sophomore Kade Strutz found the endzone five times against the Rivals and picked up 158 rushing yards on 26 carries. Strutz also caught 7 balls for 59 yards. Sophomore Parker Proulx through for 180 yard and two touchdowns, completing 16 of 26 attempts with one interception.
Big Sandy will next take on the Heart Butte Warriors at home this Friday as they look to get on a roll heading into October.
