The Big Sandy Pioneers got back on the winning track in a big way this past Friday as they ran all over the visiting Heart Butte Warriors in a lopsided 63-0 win.
Sophomore Kade Strutz has been the go to guy for the Pioneers this season but it was junior Brock Proulx that got the Pioneers on the scoreboard first.
Proulx stepped in front of an errant Warrior pass and returned the interception 24 yards for the games first score. Strutz then added the conversion run for a 7-0.
Following a Safety, Strutz returned the ensuing kickoff 42 yards for another score and the rout was on. Strutz added another three yard conversion run and junior Clint Darlington hauled in a 21 yard scoring strike from junior Ryan Roth to continue the scoring barrage.
Strutz then added a very short punt return and a 37 yard interception return to give the Pioneers a 37-0 lead heading into the second quarter of action.
Strutz began the second quarter scoring with a 43 yard touchdown run and Brock proulx added a 16 yard TD run to give Big Sandy a 50-0 halftime lead.
Roth would score next for the Pioneers on a 33 yard fourth quarter Punt Return. Big Sandy's final points came on a 25 yard scoring strike from Roth to Darlington for a 63-0 win.
Strutz finished with three carries for 52 yards and a score, a punt return score, a kick return score and two interceptions, including a touchdown.
Roth completed all three pass attempts for 80 yards and two scores with Darlington catching both.
This weeks scheduled contest with Augusta has been canceled. Big Sandy will return to the field on Saturday, October 6 when they hit the road to take on the Denton/Geyser/Standford Bearcats in another tough Northern C Six-man football clash.
