Morgan Simpson was a cheerleader in Big Sandy when she was in high school. She was a cheerleader for two years in 2002 and 2003. She really enjoyed it. I asked her if that was why she wanted to be a coach. Morgan told me, “The girls approached me. They wanted a program again. And there is no reason there shouldn’t be a program. We have the girls that have the interest in it. We have the uniforms. They fit and they look good. They just needed a coach to help them.”
Morgan moved to Big Sandy in 1995 with her parents Dave and Deb Louvar, when she was in the 5th grade. She went to kindergarten in Belt before she moved to Geraldine for the next few years. She graduated in Big Sandy.
“We are going to be raising funds for new uniforms.” Morgan said. “The old ones fit, but if they have just one more Cheerleader we won’t have enough uniforms.”
Audrey Sipler, Hope Gasvoda, Amiya Edwards, and Jozlyn Baumann are the cheerleaders for the basketball season. Morgan says that, “Aubrey does all the dance choreography. They are so good. They are such a fun group. It’s so easy. The girls pick it up so fast. It’s been fun to have cheerleaders again.” It’s a great activity for anyone who wants to be involved but doesn’t want to play volleyball or basketball.
Morgan meets with them twice a week for about an hour every Wednesday and Thursday night. They make posters and practice routines. At the games, they help make a lot of noise. The Pioneer spirit is here.
