The Big Sandy City Council met as usual on January 9th, with all council members present Shaud Schwarzbach-Mayor, Colby Baumgarn, Darin Ray, Ted Pursley, and Jon Sheehy. All employees of the city were also present, Wendy Kleinsausser, City Clerk, Tim Labuda and Larry Geyer Big Sandy’s maintenance personnel. There was one Big Sandy residence but he gave no public comment.
Dennis Hale, Chouteau Country Sheriff’s Deputy, report was short. The digital speed signs on the outside of town are working again.
Those serving on the Pivot Committee at the lagoon will convene again sometime this January.
On December 11th, the new water project reached substantial completion. There were three places that needed extra fabric and additional gravel because of the water levels in those spots. It added $25,000 extra for the change order. They are currently shut down for the winter and when they start up again they have about 20 days left. The government shut down does affect payment. Big Sandy will not receive the funds to pay all of the invoice until the government opens up again. The draw requests were approved, but will not be paid in its entirety. The water ordinance will be revisited on January 23 at city hall. This is a work meeting but it is open to the public.
They will be setting up the TV for Video Conferencing which will be available for public use. The funds for the 65-inch TV was given to Big Sandy by a Community Grant from Triangle Telephone.
The Regional water line should be completed in three years. We should have the water pipe line in Big Sandy because the project is rank number two in the nation.
Tim LaBuda said he was starting work on the pool. I’m not sure if it was a joke or not. There is however considerable work to be done on the pool before it is opened up for the public this spring and the weather is cooperative.
Hillary Page works on the Big Sandy Web site, townofbigsandy.com. She keeps it updated. It is hoped that the public would take the time to look it up because she does a great job and we need to use the site and appreciate her for keeping it updated.
