The Pioneer track athletes competed in two meets this past week: The Cal Wearly Memorial in Havre and the Choteau Acantha in Choteau.
The Havre track provided its typical cold and windy conditions throughout the day. Despite the weather, the boys team placed 7th of 28 teams. The Cal Wearly meet hosted over 700 athletes this year, and showcased many of the Northern Divisions athletes competing in their first meet of the year.
Ryan Roth raced to personal records in both the 1600 and 3200, while Brock Proulx and Kade Strutz marked impressive throws in the shot (Proulx 2nd, Strutz 3rd) and discus (Proulx 3rd, Strutz 10th). Parker Proulx finished second and set a new PR in the javelin. He is currently at the top of the leaderboard in the Northern Division for the javelin. On the girls side, Abriana Blanton placed 7th in the 100 m hurdles and 9th in the 300 m hurdles. Amanda Cline continues to improve in the throwing events, placing 15th in the discus and 20th in the javelin.
The Choteau Acantha meet hosted 22 teams. The boys team tied for 5th place with 38 points. Leading the Pioneers with a big win in the triple jump was Clint Darlington. He jumped 40’11”, which put him atop the leaderboard for the Northern Division. Ryan Roth brought home a 2nd place finish in the 3200, with Jeremiah Genereux finishing 7th. Kade Strutz tossed the discus 127’10” to set a new PR and finished 2nd. He also finished 5th in the shot. Brock Proulx placed 4th in the shot with a put of 40’10”. He also placed 7th in the discus.
