The Big Sandy High School Band and Choir earn Superior Ranking at District Music Festival

This weekend the BSHS music program took the band and choir to the district music festival in Malta. The students were directed by Mrs. Walker who is substituting for Mrs. Robertson while she is on maternity leave with her new baby boy! Mrs. Walker is doing a wonderful job picking up for Mrs. Robertson and seems to be enjoying another year of teaching. Mrs. Walker has taught at Big Sandy Schools for a long time before she retired five years ago. The seniors were especially happy that they get to end their high school career with their first music teacher.

On Friday the whole band and choir performed in front of several adjudicators with pieces they have been preparing since January. The choir performed the songs "Carry a Light" and "Song for a Russian Child" receiving the highest ranking from the adjudicators. The band performed the songs "Beyond the Challenge" and "In Simple Faith" and also received the highest rank possible.

Two ensembles also performed on Friday known as the Sandy Sweethearts and Select. The Sandy Sweethearts are an all-female ensemble and they performed "Home of My Heart" and received the highest ranking as well. Sandy Select is another ensemble and received the highest ranking as well, leaving all the Friday events with excellent reviews! On Saturday the High School's solos and ensembles performed in front of the adjudicators leaving nineteen superior rankings. This means nineteen of our performers will be going to state in Helena. All the students and Mrs. Walker did amazing this weekend and Mrs. Robertson said how proud she was of how well everyone preformed!
