As the school year is coming to its end, the annual spring concert was held last Tuesday, at the Big Sandy High School. The concert was organized by Mrs. Walker and Miss Robertson. This year Miss Robertson decided to start a family, resulting in Mrs. Walker taking over her job for her once her baby boy was born. Mrs. Walker taught at BSHS for many years before her retirement and never in a million years would she of imagined hosting another spring concert. Miss. Robertson decided to come back for one last concert and her and Miss Walker gave out prestigious awards to a few hard-working students.
Two juniors who received awards were Audrey Sipler and Bailey Gasvoda. These two young ladies revised the Arion Music Award. The Arion Music Award goes to students who show leadership and immense involvement in their music program. Both of these ladies were extremely honored and surprised, for they didn’t know Juniors were eligible for this award. Audrey especially loved receiving this award. She said how she loved the fact that Miss Walker came back to substitute because it brought back many elementary music awards. All of the students loved Mrs. Robertson and are sad to see her go but having Miss Walker back was also a wonderful treat; especially for the seniors!
Two senior girls, Jaylyn Cline & Georgia Wortman, also received honorable awards. After these girls graduated as Salutatorian and Valedictorian of their class, receiving another honor from their music program was amazing for both of them. Georgia acquired the Prestigious Band Award for her leadership and participation in the BSHS band over the last four years. She was happy and honored to have received this award. Jaylyn was awarded the National School Choral Award for her leadership, helpfulness, and participation in BSHS choir for the last four years. She felt honored to receive this award.
The concert overall was a big success! The choir had fun songs to sing with Melanie Schwartzbach and Bailey Gasvoda as accompanists. There were also a few wonderful piano solos and instrumental duets. The band did a wonderful job performing their songs with Miss Walker and Mrs. Robertson as directors. Congratulations to the four students who received music rewards and thank you to Miss Walker and Mrs. Robertson for being amazing music teachers over the years!
