For the first time in Big Sandy the Big Sandy Library will sponsor a lunch program that coincides with the summer reading program. Librarian Darlene Cline wrote and received a small grant from the Chouteau County Community Coalition and the Back-Pack Buddies Program which will allow the library to serve a paper sack lunch for students in the reading program. They received enough money so they can serve 60 children lunch on Thursdays at noon. There are no restrictions or income requirements. Any child wanting to be in the reading program at the library can have a paper sack lunch which will have a sandwich, fruit, snack, and water in it.
The Friends of the Library will help make the lunches on Wednesday at the Senior Citizens. Crystal Geyer has ordered and received some the food that is necessary and she will assist the Friends of the Library with the preparation of the sack lunches.
The first Thursday of the program will be June 13 and it will end on August 1st. There are seven Thursday in the reading program.
There is a lot of buzz about this and children have already come into the library looking for a lunch.
