Big Sandy weathered the storm last week

July 4th will be here, but Big Sandy will not be having any man-made fireworks this year. As it is, it is always, "Next year country!" The 4th isn't just about fire-works anyway, it's about celebrating freedom. Picnics and sitting around celebrating together. It is also important to know there are many people who hate fireworks in Big Sandy so they are happy. It's important to know there are many in Big Sandy that don't want to be, or can't be around fireworks when they go off. So, giving them one year to celebrate without the anxiety they feel every year can be a blessing to them.

Besides remember it is illegal to set fireworks off within the city limits.

My father hated fireworks. It wasn't till recently that I put his time in Korea, with massive artillery attacks, and his hatred of fireworks together. He loved electrical storms however and could sit for hours watching the lightning strike all around us. He would take all four of us kids out to the sun room to watch the fireworks the storms created declaring each strike more beautiful than the other. I've loved them ever sense. You have to take safety measures, but nothing man made can measure up.

Recently Big Sandy has had its share of storms. The massive force, and the destruction it caused is not something to celebrate. However, there is something about the awesome power and the incredible views we were able to experience. Here's to hoping the destructive storms came only a week before July 4th and for the rest of the summer any electric lightshows come with a ton of rain!
