Pie Crust Classes – July 23 at the Big Sandy Library, 2 workshops – 1:30 – 3:30 pm or 4:00 – 6:00 pm. The class will be hands-on giving the participants the chance to assemble the pie dough ingredients and rolling and placing the dough in the pie pan to take home to finish. There will be no cost for the class. All ages and all levels of experience making pies are welcome. We would love for those who have been successful in making pies to join us to share your experience and insight on what works for you.

Summer Activities for the kids

Looking for activities to keep the kids busy during the summer? Here are some low cost ideas you could keep handy for those times you or the babysitter needs to think of something for them to do or maybe even a plan a group event with other kids.

• Have cooking lessons (bake bread, make homemade ice cream, grandma’s cookies)

• Take a drive to the local historical roadside sites

• Needlework project such as hand sewing, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, etc

• Participate in free summer reading programs and story times offered by your local library

• Make paper airplanes or paper boats and have races

• Try making and flying your own kites

• Put on a theatrical performance, a puppet show or a talent contest

• Make water piñatas by filling large balloons with water

• Write and illustrate a story

• Plant a small garden or container garden and watch it grow

• Have sack race using pillow cases

• Have a picnic

• Take your kids on a tour of family history and photos

• Play board games on rainy days

• Outdoor bowling by using empty plastic jugs

• Walk, hike and explore the outdoors

• Camp in the backyard

And, most kids would likely hope you forget this one…chores—both indoors and outdoors.
