Award winners will be presented their award items during an Awards Program on Sunday, October 6. Details will be coming out soon. Everyone is invited.

The 4-H livestock market sale, called by Scottie Peters and Beau Pegar, resulted in total sales of $171,829.50.

Twenty-two market steers sold for a total of $100,920.75. The average was $3.34 per pound. The grand champion steer, owned by Mikell O’Hara, sold for $5.30 per pound to Frielings Ag Equipment. The reserve champion, belonging to Jonna McCullough, sold to Fort Benton Realty, LLP for $3.75 per pound.

Six market lambs averaged $5.85 per pound for a total of $4842.50. Chase Tinklenberg’s grand champion sold to the Onstad Ranch for $6.50 per pound. The reserve champion lamb, owned by Kaleb Rayner, sold to Frieling’s Ag Equipment for $3.50 per pound.

The sale of 36 market hogs brought $49696.25. Average price per pound was $5.06. The grand champion, owned by Jonna McCullough, brought $5.50 per pound and was sold to Lennington Farms. Montana Ranch Insurance purchased Bentley McCullough’s reserve champion for $6.75 per pound.

Five bred heifers were sold for a total of $11,300.00 with an average price of $2260.00. The grand champion, owned by Arrow Hucke, brought $2700.00 and was purchased by Montana Ranch Insurance. The Reserve Champion bred heifer, owned by Taryn Reid was sold to Golden Harvest Seeds for $2500.00.

The sale of 79 livestock projects was supported by 47 buyers. Many buyers donated through the livestock resale process. O’Hara Land and Cattle donated $4275 to the Building Fund. INDHemp donated $1875.00 to the Chouteau County 4-H Council. Big Rabbit INC donated $1275.00 to the Bleacher Fund. Montana Flour and Grain donated 947.75 to the Big Fan Fund. Joyce Fuel & Feeds, Inc. donated to the Building Fund in the amount of $666.75.

Montana 4-H reaches 26,000 youth across the state in all 56 counties. 4-H combines tradition with cutting edge skills through hands-on learning empowering youth to lead for a lifetime. Members choose from a range of over 200 projects and learning experiences. Through these projects and experiences, members set goals, learn the skills needed to achieve goals, and demonstrate their skills at events such as county fairs, speaking contests and other competitions locally, statewide, regionally, nationally and internationally.
