New at The Mountaineer

Hello readers of the Mountaineer, I am the new kid on the block. Many of you might recognize and know me, but just for good measure my name is Jeremiah Genereux. I will be writing for this newspaper for the last few months of my high school career, as it is where I am co-opping. I am not just here for the fun of it, even though I have really enjoyed my time here so far. The reason I am here is to get some positive experience in the newspaper business before I officially start my writing journey this upcoming fall when I arrive at the University of Montana, as I will be studying journalism. I am super grateful for this opportunity and that I get to co-op at the Mountaineer two consecutive periods in a row.

Not too many students who come out of Big Sandy look at journalism as one of their top career choices, as many are not too fond of writing, but I am on the opposite side of the spectrum. I feel that writing is a great medium for creativity and that it is a constructive way to express emotions. I also like to think that I am a decent writer, but I guess I will find out if that is the truth at the end of my tenure here.

Lastly, I will end this little entry about myself with a fun fact. The fun fact is that I like to be in the loop.I find it important to know what is happening in the world around you over anything else.

That is the reason I am choosing to be a journalist over an author. I have lots of praise for multiple authors, but I like to write about current events. Reporting solid, accurate information is what I hope to do later in my life, so I hope that this is a start to a long, fruitful career.
