The monthly meeting of the Big Sandy Booster Club was held on September 8th. During this time, when so many activities have been canceled, the Booster Club is trying to maintain a positive approach n supporting the activities of the Big Sandy Schools. It has sent out it’s a letter to the Corporate Sponsors and are making plans how best to support the schools.
The Big Sandy Booster Club has seen many changes over the past five years. The booster club values the community’s traditions, and they hold them dear, to their heart while knowing that change and growth are important. The booster club created a Corporate Sponsorship program, which has allowed them to do many new and exciting things and advertise those businesses who support them so generously. Through our members and corporate support, the booster club continues to provide financial assistance to students traveling to sporting events and other extracurricular activities. They have made many purchases to the athletic programs, including new volleyballs and basketballs with racks and a practice shooting machine for the basketball program. They bought new speakers for the football field which can also be used in the gym and the auditorium. Through memorial donations to honor Alan Pearson, they bought a new scorer’s table “in memory of Alan.” A new large sign has been placed outside the high school, and one at the elementary school is showing our Pioneer pride. They know that new travel gear and equipment keep our students looking sharp and respectful. Therefore, they provided the football team with new gear bags and the music program with new shirts for their travels and performances. All Coaches will be given new coaching attire for the 2020-21 School year. The track team has been provided with new throwing equipment and an easy up tent to give our track athletes shade. A new weight machine for the annex to help with our track team’s specific strengthening needs was purchased. The sports teams have had team banners made to show our support and how proud we are of our kids. New flooring mats were also added to the annex.
Big Sandy Booster Club is also focused on community service. We continue to offer the community calendar, which hopefully helps to celebrate one another as a community. They spruced up the football field by cleaning up the grounds and painting the bleachers and tables. They also gave the cardio room a little facelift with fresh paint, cleaning, and hanging inspirational signs at high school. The Booster Club started a new fun tradition that seems to be a hit. The powder puff football game at the fall sports kick-off. This is where we have moms, and female teachers play against high school girls. The football boys coach, referee, and cheer.
It’s a fun way to mix things up and get everybody involved in something new and different.
This year, all games and activities will be broadcast on the NFHS network through new cameras and a video streaming system on the football field and in the gym. We have plans and have come up with the funding to replace the basketball courts at the elementary school, and the work has already begun on this extensive project. This year we hope to replace the padding in the gym behind the basketball hoops.
Each year the booster club works to provide Big Sandy “fan Gear” to support our teams and community. New clothing design will be becoming this year, and they hope to have it available very soon for purchase.
Big Sandy Booster Club is excited about the projects and purchases that have been completed through hard work and time dedicated by our members. Our corporate sponsors’ financial support and smaller fundraisers such as 50/50 drawn at games, pop-shot at basketball halftimes, and booster club clothing sales. They truly appreciate all the community members who so willingly donate to support such projects and ideas. The Booster Club would like to see more community members. Everyone is invited and welcomed to join the booster club. This year it may be more important than ever, due to smaller attendance at the matches and games. Ticket sales help pay for the referees. If not enough money is raised at the gate, they will be paid out of the budgeted funds per sport. Therefore, they look forward to your input and ideas and want to thank you for your support! Go, Pioneers!!
