Keeping Big Sandy Great

One thing about a small town, you know almost everyone driving down the street. I was walking down the street when Shane and Gwen Ophus, from Ophus Auction Company, pulled up by the side walk. Shane said he had an Idea he wanted to run past me. It was about recognizing all the good stuff that happens in our community. He wanted to have some pictures in the paper so that everyone could see for themselves what is occurring and bring more pride back to our town.

I was intrigued, because I was thinking myself about a Big Sandy Mountaineer motto. I had come up with "Committed to Community" "Celebrating Rural Life". I thought whatever he had in mind seemed to fit with the direction of the Mountaineer completely.

Shane came to the Mountaineer office and sat down with me. He wanted to find ways to celebrated Big Sandy and what makes our town great. He mentioned how there were so many projects going on around town that he wanted to acknowledge. He thought if we spent some time promoting what makes Big Sandy great it would help balance all the negative we were hearing in the world. He settled on "Keeping Big Sandy Great" as the weekly theme. Shane will be taking the pictures and we will publish them weekly. It's kind of like a different twist on "Yard of the Week". You may have noticed it started last week.

Each week the Ophus Auction Company will be sponsoring Keeping Big Sandy Great. Make sure and notice, but more than that let's celebrate the projects that helps make our community look terrific. What a wonderful idea Ophus Auction Company.
