Three months in Rick Darlington, County Commissioner, reports, “It’s been really good, not a lot of snow removal this winter, with the open winter we saved a lot of money. We have a big job ahead of us to try and get them (the road) all improved. We aren’t going to get it done overnight. It’s going to take a long time” It was Saturday during the grade school basketball games when I finally got up with Rick. He continued to tell me, “We are out there blading them right now.” They have a full crew having hired Lance Cook again. Traci Sibra is on full-time now. She is going to be trained, and she’ll be doing everything the guys are doing.”
“The crushers have been down all winter. Hopefully, we’ll be getting some gravel this spring.”
Rick said, “When the weather was good this winter, we were blading. And then the weather turned cold we can’t blade the roads. Nor spread gravel. When the ground is frozen, we can’t grade it, and when the gravel is frozen, it ruins the trucks as well.”
He hopes to get many of the roads graded quickly.
The county has been responsible for tearing down the old gas station at the corner of Highways 87 and 236. “We’ve got the building tore down, including the foundations. The environmental crews will be responsible for digging up the old gas tanks.”
