Big Sandy Pioneer track was canceled last year, so the start of a new season is exciting. Head Coach for the Big Sandy Pioneers is Melanie Schwarzbach. Helping her this year is Charlie Klimas throws, Wendy Taylor-sprints, and Shersteen Cline.
“Track helps every sport. Not everybody does track for the love of track, but track will benefit every sport,” Melanie said. “They are coming out knowing they need to get faster for football.”
According to Melanie, “We are using a really cool newsprint program.” She learned about it at the coach’s clinics. “It’s a minimalist program. You will run fast every time you practice. The kids are liking it.” The old way of training was massive running to build up stamina.
Eighteen kids have gone out for track this year; 8 boys and 10 girls. “We lost one due to a wrestling injury. And two boys that would have been out to track but are still hurt from football.”
“I’m excited for all the kids; they lost their season last year.”
There are eight track meets plus district, divisional, and state. One track meet was already canceled due to weather, and the meet in Cut Bank was already held.
