Barracudas Sweep Harlem Swim Meet

The Big Sandy Swim Team took 1st place at the Harlem swim meet this weekend.

The team was led by a phenomenal performance from senior swimmer Brady Pleninger, who set three new federation records this weekend. Pleninger broke the 50 yard free record with a time of 22.81 seconds. The previous record was held by Keane Fink, set in 2010 with a time of 25.07. He next broke the 100 yard free record with a time of 52.51 seconds. The previous record was set in 1997 by B. Fjeldhim with a time of 56.44 seconds. Finally, he broke the 100 yard backstroke record with a time of 1:05. Alex Wickens set the previous record in 2016 with a time of 1:06.22.

Pleninger wasn't the only record setter this weekend. Cam Schwarzbach set the Harlem pool record in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 27.70 seconds. Keane Fink set the previous record of 28.15 seconds in 2010.

The Barracudas also saw several swimmers earn high point honors. In the 8-under boys division, T'Gann Ketchum won 1st place, scoring 34 points. Isaac Goodman, swimming in his first ever meet as a Barracuda, placed 7th. D'Aree Sunchild placed 4th and Dorthea Merrill placed 6th in the 8-under girls division.

In the 9-10 boys division, Henry Merrill placed 2nd with 38 points. Joseph Demontiney placed 8th and Levon Myers placed 10th. Astrid Ketchum brought home 4th place, Mackenzie Werk placed 7th and Marquelle Houle, also a first year swimmer, placed 10th.

In the 11-12 division, Eyon Sherburn placed 8th, Harley LaBuda placed 7th and Daijalin Sunchild placed 8th.

Darrell Sunchild placed 5th in the boys 13-14 division, while Jai Baumann brought home 3rd place on the girls side.

The senior division saw Brady Pleninger in first place, scoring 42 points with Cam Schwarzbach in second with 38 points. Rounding out the senior division were Daisy LaBuda scoring 3rd, Caydence Pleninger in 4th and Jozlyn Baumann and Malaysia Baumann tying for 8th place.
