Big Sandy 4th of July Celebration is back

The annual Big Sandy Community 4th of July Celebration is back this year. It has been absent since 2018, it fell on a Thursday in 2019, and everyone was gone camping for the long weekend we did not have it, and then Covid hit last year, making it impossible to have it. We are resurrecting it this year. Getting back to normal is a great way to celebrate the Independence of our country.

As in years past, the event will occur on the 4th of July at the Big Sandy ballpark. We will begin serving Hamburgers and brats at 6:00 p.m. The meal will include your choice of a burger or brat with a bag of chips, a cookie, and water if desired, or bring your own drinks. It will be $5.00 a plate or a donation to next year’s fund for the celebration. All the money raised will go into the fund to have the event next year.

The Grocery Store has generously donated the burgers, and Peps have graciously donated the Brats. The Big Sandy Fire Department will be on hand just in case of a firework goes astray.

In the past, Patty Hannum and Vicki Kulbeck have baked dozens of cookies as a donation to hand out at the meal. We want to dedicate this year’s celebration to their memory. They both will be greatly missed, as will their fabulous cookies.

We want to invite everyone to come to celebrate getting things back to normal. Seeing old friends and enjoy the holiday. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the show.

We want to remind everyone that they are responsible for their own cleanup even if you have to come the next morning. For years, even before there was a 4th of July celebration, Charlie Sipler and his boys, Hayden and Everett, would get up and go clean up the ballpark. We have appreciated it, Charlie.

If you would like to donate to the Big Sandy Community 4th of July fund, you can make it at City Hall.
