2021 Big Sandy Cheer Camp Great Success

According to Cheer Coach Heather Dilworth "The future of Pioneer cheerleaders is really

bright." The 2021 Cheer Camp held Friday, September 24th, and sponsored by the Big Sandy Cheerleaders was a great success and was far beyond their expectations.

They had 35 sign up, and 30 of those showed up, including three young men. Big Sandy has three cheerleaders this year Teagan Cochran, Tavie Wortman, and Haley Schwenke. The three of them decorated T-shirts for the prospective cheerleaders, and then

Friday morning from 11:00-1:00, the youth each added their personal artistic touches to their shirts, then spent the rest of their time learning cheers and have some game to round out the day. Cochran was ill that day, so the task of training 30 future cheerleaders fell to her two comrades, and according to Dilworth, they rose to the task.

Wortman and Schwenke seemed to agree with their Cheer Coach. Wortman said that she and Dilworth were "impressed with the sign-up. We didn't think there would be that many sign-up, but because we didn't have one last year because of Covid, it made everyone want to do it this year. So, we are really happy with the turnout."

According to Schwenke, they've only had 15 to 16 show up in the previous years, and she was really impressed with how the like the grade school girls showed up ready to learn. "That's our future cheerleaders right there, and if they all decide to cheer, that's going to be really impressive. I'm really excited."

The youth attending the Cheer Camp were given the opportunity to show off their T-shirts and their newly acquired cheering skills during half-time at the Big Sandy vs. Heart Butte football game that evening. They also should be commended for the way they made their presence known by cheering loudly on the sidelines along with their mentors Workman and Schwenke.
