Big Sandy School Board Meeting

The student Council would like to bring Amberley Snyder, a motivational speaker, to Big Sandy High School. Snyder was in an accident, driving without a seat belt and over-corrected after looking down at a map. She was driving to compete in a horse-riding competition, which she still does today, even though she has been paralyzed from the waist down since 2010.

Booster club reported on their activities, already reported on by this newspaper; however, they also said that during the Halloween Carnival at the F. E. Miley school, the sixth graders were mature, responsible, and helped immensely.

The Pioneer gum floor will be redone by patching the sports that are peeling off. It will be temporally fixed with a water-based finish on the floor, which will get us through the basketball season. The floor will be redone this summer.

The Model Safe Return to School Policy created by the Montana School Board will be on the Big Sandy website if you would like to read it.

They are starting the Job Description document. They asked for input from the people who hold those positions. Anna Bold, Glen Terry, Kelly Haaland, and Maryetta Engleis on the committee.

There is a classified salary matrix for review. A guest asked if this was a public document, and the answer was yes. You may request to see it.

This year, the Senior Trip will leave on May 12th, a Thursday, and not return until Tuesday. They are going to Avon, North Carolina.

Substitute Teachers approved are Sean Henry and Randy Taylor. They will try to get a background check approved quickly.

The following were approved as Volunteer Coaches for girl’s basketball Ella Jurenka BB Volunteer Coach and Kyle Rodewald as a volunteer wrestling coach. Tucker Taylor was approved as the Jr. High Wrestling Coach.

Two out-of-district students are requesting to attend Big Sandy. One is in the 10th grade, and the other is in the 7th grade. This was approved.

Thirty-one staff members will receive gift cards to the Grocery Store, the Mint, Pep’s, and The Bakery for Christmas.

Brad Weaver, Kelly Rutledge, and Anna Bold were appointed to the negotiations committee.

They are looking at evaluation tools for the Superintendent, the Principal, and the Business Manager. Whatever tool they choose must be approved by those being evaluated.

The school clerk is working from home because of Covid-19. She is a little nervous about her cancer treatments and Covid present.

The school board members asked the principal if she would send the actual numbers of school absences to board members. Anna Bold noted that if your student has been vaccinated and is in contact with Covid-19, they can go to school with a mask. They are not quarantined.

Melanie Schwarzbach, Athletic Director, reported that the Volleyball team had one athlete on the first team conference. Jr high Basketball is a mess because of Covid-19. She will be trying to make up the games. Wrestling and Basketball started last Thursday.
