Council discusses street bids and water assistance program

The Big Sandy City Council were told they have three bids that were received concern the main street drainage project for next spring. It is highly likely that one of these bids will be approved.

The council has implemented the LIHWAP (Low Income Home water Assistance Program), an opportunity to find funds to help pay your water bills from The American Rescue Plan Act 2021 through the Montana Department of Health and Human Services.

LIHWAP helps pay: water bills, wastewater/sewer bills, water and & wastewater past due amounts, and water and wastewater late fees. The program started October 1, 2021, and will continue while funds are available.

You qualify for LIHWAP assistance if your income meets your household members’ income limits. One household member with income limits of $27,282, two household members with an income limit of $35,676, and three household members with an income limit of $44,071. If you have four in your household, your income limit is $52,465, five members with income limits of $60,859, and six household members with an income limit of $69,254.

If you’ve been approved for LIHEAP or SNAP, you may be automatically eligible for LIHWAP. An application can be found at liheap.mt.gov. City hall also has a flyer with a scan code that you can use your smartphone’s camera to visit the liheap.mt.gov website and apply.

You will need to answer all the questions completely. Ensure everyone in the home is included in the application. Ensure everyone age 16 or older signs and dates the application. Include your recent water and wastewater (sewer) bills. Include income records for the previous three months for everyone sixteen years of age and older. Include a recent bank statement for all open bank accounts and include copies of Social Security Cards.

At the last City Council meeting.
