The opening weekend of basketball brought excitement to schools, kids, parents, and communities all around the state, but there might not have been a team more pumped up than the Big Sandy Lady Pioneers. The young and hungry squad came out with a vengeance on Friday afternoon. With determination and a competitive fight, the Lady Pioneer ended the losing streak. The Lady Pioneers jumped right out, taking an 8-1 lead in the first couple minutes of the game. They came out in a full-court press using their speed and quickness, getting a couple of nice steals, which turned into layups. With a little bit of nerves and a whole lot of excitement, the Lady Pioneers found themselves in some foul trouble early in the game but were able to use their bench to keep them going strong. Eva Yeadon led the Lady Pioneers with 16 points and 11 rebounds; Eva Wagoner added 10 points and was 100% from the free-throw line, hitting 4 for 4, Jai Baumann knocked down 8 points and had five steals, and Jenny Sant came input in 2 quick baskets.
