The Lady Pioneers battled in a physical game against Hays on Tuesday night. The contest against Hays is always tough as we don’t have the height that they do, but where we lack height, we make up for it in quickness. The Lady T-birds came out shooting, hot-hitting four 3 pointers in the first half, but with the determination of the Lady Pioneers, the Thunderbirds only had a single-digit lead at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Pioneers came out a little flat but fought back within 2 points in the third quarter, led by the sharpshooting of Eva Wagoner with 16, and Eva Yeadon added 13 and led the team with 12 rebounds. Jai Baumann led the team in steals with 5, and she also chipped in 6 points, but in the end, Hays won 55-41 thanks to a late run in the 4th quarter.
The Lady Pioneers would travel to Turner for a classic 9C match-up. The game was slow as both teams were feeling each other out. Things picked up in the second quarter; even though Turner has yet to win a conference game, they battle for 32 minutes, hoping to get a win going into the District tournament. Eva Wagoner put in 16 points, going 86% from the charity stripe, Eva Yeadon put in 14 and had 4 assists, Lainey Terry added 9, and our only 3 pointer on the night. Jai Baumann led the team again in steals which turned into 6 points. Angie Sant and Amy Gasvoda each also added 2 points on the night. TheThe Lady Pioneers came out on top with a final score of 49-45.
Saturday, the Lady Pioneers would look to end their season with a win as they played their final regular-season game against CJI. The game was an intense and physical battle from start to finish. The Lady Pioneer came out a little slow, trailing 10-5 at the end of the 1st quarter. In the second quarter, they came out strong and scored 19 points going into halftime only down by 1 point. The 3rd quarter was much like the first; the Lady Pioneers couldn’t find their stride going into the final 8 minutes of play down by eight points. The Lady Pioneers game everything they had in the 4th quarter and never quit but fell short as the Lady Hawks claimed the 6th seed going into the district tournament; the final score was 52-47. Eva Yeadon led the Lady Pioneers with 28 points, pulling down 18 rebounds and coming up with 6 steals. Keira Galbavy checked into the game and knocked down 7 points; Jai Baumann added 5 points and delivered 4 assists.
