Big Sandy Barracudas start their Swim team season

It's that time again. The Big Sandy Barracudas held a fundraiser during Rotary's Easter Bunny Egg Hunt (which was held indoors due to the weather). The Barracudas served 134 people at their event. The Big Sandy Barracudas raise money for the team through fundraising, donations, and registration fee for the swimmers.

This year the sign-up period to join the swim team will be a month-long. The registration will start on April 25th through May 20th. There will be forms located at The Bakery and First Bank. Registration forms and fees can be dropped in the drop boxes at both locations. The registration fee is $50 per swimmer or $125 for a family of three or more.

Age groups for the competition are eight and under, although your child must be able to swim, 8-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15 years and older. They can swim competitively in four different swimming styles: free, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke. They will be taught how to swim better, and if they want to, they'll learn the other three strokes. In the past, before COVID-19, there has been a meet on most weekends. However, you only must attend two meets held by the western division to qualify to swim at divisional.

The coaches this year are Travis Baumann, the head coach, and Cam Schwarzbach, the assistant coach.

It is a sport that can include every family member. A sport that allows the older swimmers to interact easily with the younger swimmers. Your swimmer will get to know swimmers from all over the state as they compete with each other and make great friends.
