BSMC Wellness Center Open House

Big Sandy Medical Center (BSMC) is celebrating the grand opening of its Wellness and Therapy Center with an Open House on Friday, May 13, 2022, 3:00-5:00 pm.

BSMC created the Center to enhance care for our patients that use the medical center for primary care as well as to assist people in the community to actively manage their health and provide the resources to do so. A Wellness and Therapy Center in combination with the medical facility can provide medically integrated fitness to help manage such disease processes as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol through the necessary lifestyle modifications. Lifestyle modifications are the first choice in preventative healthcare focusing on a person’s “well”ness versus their “ill”ness.

Kurt Strutz of “Strutz On Physical Therapy” will play a vital role in the Center, which includes 1,150 square feet of padded indoor turf; full gym with cardio equipment; physical therapy room and a treatment rooms. BSMC is also transferring our Chiropractor, Pat Kadrmas, to the Center to enhance the continuity of care between those services. Such an accommodating space gives us the opportunity to work with groups of patients and athletes. Upcoming plans to offer speed and agility, strength and conditioning, and vertical leap training camps for our student athletes are underway.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been linked to increased levels of stress, anxiety and depression in the population. These are associated with unhealthy eating patterns and sedentary behavior increasing risk of obesity. Montana is notorious for long harsh winters which may also lead to seasonal affective disorder “SAD”. Studies show SAD may affect 11 million people in the U.S. each year, and 25 million more may have a milder form called the winter blues. BSMC also has plans to keep our patients active and healthy during the winter months by way of its new Wellness and Therapy Center.

For obvious liability reasons, and to accommodate our patients first, BSMC will not be offering open gym times with open use. However, personal training, medically guided fitness programs and preventative health programs may be purchased on a fee for service basis or may actually be covered by health insurance. Contact Ryne LaBuda, Manager, at 406-378-3921 for more information.

Once again, on Friday, May 13, 2022, between 3:00 and 5:00 pm, we encourage you to stop by the Wellness and Therapy Center at 164 McNamara to view the newly renovated space and celebrate with us.
