Last Saturday, at Pepin Park in Havre, Montana, it was a little cloudy and rained even, but The Shiver Brains played their hearts out. The Shiver Brains, made up of Levon Myers, Henry, and Dorothea Merrill, Liam Simpsom, Lexie Jones , and Eden Pansch. Tavie Wortman played guitar to help them out. They are learning to sing, play guitar, drums, keyboards, and rhythm instruments at the Rock School.
They sang Louie Louie by the Kingsmen, Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash, Smells Like Team Spirit by Nirvana, and Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones. If you don't know those songs, they're older, and it could be you weren't into Rock and Roll.
They all said, "It was so much fun! It was a blast!" Levon jumped up and down like a rocker would while singing his song. I don't know, but watching them play and sing in such a public area was the most fantastic experience for this gramma.
The adult band called themselves the Rusty Ravens, but that was a joke because they changed their name for every show depending on who they were covering. On Saturday, they gave a tribute to the Black Crowes.
Billy Pierce is the lead singer. Dave Marten, from Havre, is the drummer. Josh and Charolette Danreuther, Chris and Larry Myers, and Nathan Merrill, all from Big Sandy, rounded out the rest of the band. The songs they played that I knew the names of were Jealous, Remedy, and Twice as Hard by the Black Crowes.
This Saturday was special because on the stage was a father, Nathan, and two of his children, Henry and Dorothea. Also incredible, there were three generations of musicians. Larry Myers has always loved music and performed for years with Rusty Danreuther and his son Chris Myers, the father of Levon. Larry said, "I'm passing the torch to the next generation, and they'll be passing it too, as you can tell by the opening act."
