The Big Sandy High School Class of 1972 gathered at the end of May to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their graduation. Over three fourths of the surviving members of the class and many spouses attended the gathering at the Virgelle Mercantile. In addition to locals and those from across Montana, classmates travelled from California, Illinois, Minnesota, Utah and Washington to strengthen special friendships, share memories and provide updates.
Those in attendance included classmates Jim Kassmier, Ken Sorenson, Dusty Haugen, Kathy (Handl) Headlee, Wade Drew, Dar Ophus, Carol Cooke, Kathi (Kulbeck) Stromberg, Jim Drga, Kelly Jenkins, Jack Halter, Randy Williams, Larry Myers, Ed Blazek, Verla (Ray) Ophus, Glenna Wortman Obie, Glenna Branagan, Peggy Simpson, Lynette (Gullickson) Ereaux, and Janet Sheehy.
The class also raised over $500 in donations for a gift to the high school library in memory of the departed members of the class.
While the weather was variable, the outlook was consistently sunny both days of the reunion. Once again, the Class of 1972 laid claim to the title of "Best Class Ever".
