The “Friends of the Library” met on Thursday, May 19th to discuss what has been happening at the library since our January meeting. At the library’s open house for our Fifth anniversary, Renee Hansen was the lucky winner of the beautiful quilt made and donated to the library by Judy (Bissell) Hawkins. This was particularly special as Judy and Renee are both Pioneers, graduating with the Class of 1966. Darlene thanked Jody Holland for all her work at the library these past years and wished her well on the next leg of their life’s journey.
T.C. Glass of Great Falls is overseeing the glass countertop overlays for the circulation desk. The first one is in place. Erik Seitsema was the winner of the first quarter’s Reading Challenge. Way to go, Erik! This contest will continue until the end of 2022, so get yourself a good book (audio books count, too) and keep reading! “Oh, the places you’ll go….”
Under new business, Darlene talked about the Summer Reading Program: “Oceans of Possibilities through Reading,” which will begin Monday, June 13 and run until July 28. Young and old are invited to participate! Darlene has cute decorations all over the library and delightful book displays that are all about the sea world. Guest speakers and special talents of Tavie Wortman and Roberta Edwards will be utilized throughout the program. Stop at the library and pick up a calendar that lists all the fun events for these two months. Once again the “Friends” will be putting together raffle baskets full of wonderful things! Visit the library and get caught up in the excitement. There will even be an adult scavenger hunt!
Looking forward, Rachel Baumgarn mentioned that “Back-pack Buddies” will be distributed from the library on Fridays once school is out for the summer. She and Darlene also discussed how large the “after-school” crowd is, and they are formulating ideas for a possible organized program for this age group, beginning next fall. September will be “Library Card Sign-Up Month.” This card also allows the holder access to an endless number of books through Montana’s “Library To Go” app. There are oceans of possibilities!
Several ideas for fundraisers were tossed around. The “Friends” will also be preparing special events for Big Sandy’s Christmas Stroll. Nona Danreuther donated a nice flowerpot, and Darlene will be filling it with flowers – a welcome sight during this dry time. Darlene congratulated Geraldine on the nearly completed, total remodel of their library. The “Friends” thanked Darlene for keeping OUR library such a hopping place with so many activities, interesting books, magazines, papers, computers, and movies, to list a few. She and Rachel are a wonderful team!
Thanks to all our patrons and those foundations who continue to support our library, donating their time and talents, books and magazines, giving memorials, and providing grant money. All this support is very appreciated!
