Senior Center hires a cook

The Big Sandy Senior Center Board has hired a cook, Robin Coyler, for the center with an opening date of August 1st, hopefully. Robin formally worked for the Big Sandy nursing home and needed to give them time to hire a new cook.

At the last meeting, the members discussed meal tickets. They have been found. Individuals having meal tickets can either get a refund or continue using them. You will be contacted personally by Terry Grant.

The next meeting is on June 20th, a Wednesday, starting at 5:00. Although they had their annual meeting last month, the new by-laws, which have not been approved, state the annual meeting date is in July. There will be a financial report from the audit of the previous six-year and a budget for 2022. Also, the By-Laws tabled at the last meeting will be voted on. At the previous meeting, the membership voted to have a $10 membership to vote. Anyone can come to the meeting, and anyone can eat. But if you want to vote, you must pay the $10 membership fee.

Before the center closed to re-organize, several people offered meat for the meals. It is still needed, so if you plan on giving meat, please do so. There is chicken in the freezer, but beef is needed. The center can accept meat if it was butchered at a recognized facility. Also if you had planned to donate funds to support the center. The books are all cleared and cleaned up and financially ready to start fresh with a clear set of guide lines.

The Board consists of Brenda Darlington, Lorrie Merrill, Pat Matthew, Wend Kleinsauser, Karen Baumann, Terry Grant, Brad Moore, and Gloria Godfrey. They are looking for a positive outcome as we go forward.
