Once again August 27th at Loma, there will be a fantastic event to celebrate who we are and support the volunteer fireman in the county. Last year this event raised just shy of $20,000 for all the county volunteer fire departments. They hope to continue this event this year and want it to get bigger and better. How can it not with music, great food, dancing, and the fun of outbidding your neighbor and, at the same time, helping our local fire department?
The Stone family from Geraldine will open the show. Then we will have the live auction. Each department will bring two items to auction off. The money for those items will go directly to that town's fire department.
The sponsors so far this year are Shields, North 40, Joyce Fuels, Governors Keep, Jim Taylor Motors, Benton Pharmacy, and Glacier Bank.
They will also have auction items for the general fund and to help pay for the band.
The main band is The Whiskey River Band. They will play for the dance, and they auctioned off their services last year. Marti Clark from Rusty's Bar bought them for her retiring party.
The donations will go through the Big Sandy Fire Department: PO Box 157, Big Sandy, 59520. If you want to make for the general fund, write it in the memo.
Vendors at the event will be the Hungry Heifer and the Lunch Box. Wake Up will be selling beer and wine. There is a cotton candy vendor from Loma as well.
Paula Witt reminds everyone to please bring their chairs. They can also bring their refreshments.
It takes someone with a dream, a vision, and the determination to start and make something new successful. Paula Witt from Loma has been the driving factor in this event for two years. This year they invited each fire department to the organizational meeting in hopes of asking them to help with the event. She told me each department sent a representative and is thankful for their contributions.
We all need to dance! To find reasons to celebrate. Head down to Loma on the 27
