Without starting Sophomore point guard Jai Baumann, the Lady Pioneers showed no fear or quit as they battled the Lady Bears, winning 76-74. Eva Yeadon had a big 3-pointer to open the game. Big Sandy set up in a half-court press, and Box Elder turned the ball over to start their first offensive possession. Eva Wagoner had a big 1st quarter offensively with a 3-point play, several fast-break layups, and nice jump shots. The Lady Bears had some answers offensively of their own, capitalizing on three 3-pointers. But great play by Yeadon, Angie Sant, and Wagoner put the Lady Pioneers up at the end of the 1st quarter 22-20.
Box Elder came out ready to play the 2nd quarter with a quick 3-pointer and caused Big Sandy to turn the ball over on the press. A hustle play by Mattie Gasvoda and put back by Keira Galbavy put the Lady Pioneers out in front 24-23. Yeadon had some big buckets and great passes in the 2nd quarter. After some Box Elder turnovers and great passing from Alex Worrall and Gasvoda to Eva Yeadon, the Lady Pioneers were up 34-30. The Lady Bears were not giving in, though, and continued to hit buckets and cause Big Sandy to turn the ball over. Both teams shot bonus free throws with 4:30 left in the quarter, which made for a slower-paced game, but the Lady Bears still hit a couple of big 3-pointers to put them up going into halftime by one point with a score of 43-42.
The 3rd quarter started with turnovers for both teams. After a fast break bucket from the Lady Bears, Galbavy had a nice pass to Yeadon, who scored a nice 3-point play. Following that was a nice fast break layup by Wagoner, putting the Lady Pioneers back on top by 1 point. Both teams fought hard for rebounds and put-backs. Box Elder pulled away a little until the end of the quarter when big plays came from Galbavy with a bucket and a block on the defensive end. Susie Sant hit a bucket as the 3rd quarter ended with the Lady Bears back on top, 60-53.
The Lady Pioneers came out with solid defense, but the Lady Bears still had opportunities for some fast break layups. With 5:00 left in the game, the Lady Pioneers were down 10 points. Big Sandy showed true grit and feistiness to claw their way back into the game. With big buckets by Yeadon and Wagoner and crucial free throws by Gasvoda, The Lady Pioneers come back and tie the game to send it into overtime.
Overtime was all about hustle plays from both teams and some crucial free throws while both teams were shooting bonus shots. After some great defensive stops and nice buckets from both teams, the Lady Pioneers pulled away with the victory, beating the Lady Bears 76-74.
Eva Yeadon had 39 points in the contest, with Eva Wagoner having 19. Keira Galbavy pulled down 14 rebounds, with Eva Yeadon getting 12 herself.
After a hard-fought battle in which the Lady Pioneers prevailed the night before in overtime against the Lady Bears, it seemed to have affected them against NorthStar, eventually losing 48-53. The Lady Pioneers struggled to get into a rhythm early in the game, which unfortunately led to several turnovers and poor passing decisions. That didn't stop the Lady Pioneers, though; they drove on and fought hard. The 1st quarter was low scoring, but some great passes inside to Angie Sant, as well as a pass back out to Eva Yeadon for a 3-pointer, put Big Sandy up by two leading into the 2nd quarter.
In the second quarter, the turnover woes continued for the Lady Pioneers, and NorthStar took advantage, getting some good baskets in the middle of the paint, some put-backs by their post players, and some fast break layups. Again, the Lady Pioneers still battled and got some nice buckets by Yeadon, Eva Wagoner, and Keira Galbavy. Even with a great attempt to claw back into the game, the Lady Pioneers went into halftime down 7 with a score of 19-26.
The 3rd quarter was all Lady Pioneers. They came out looking refreshed and caused NorthStar problems. Angie Sant had a nice board and bucket, followed by a nice drive from Jai Baumann. Wagoner then scored a fast break layup and a nice take to the hoop, putting the Lady Pioneers on top 27-26. Big Sandy continued to do great things with a couple of steals from Baumann and Wagoner. Sant had another board and bucket, followed by an extraordinary give-and-go between Baumann and Galbavy. The 3rd quarter ended with a 3-pointer from Baumann, with Big Sandy still up 37-35.
Going into the last stanza of the game was more of the same for the Lady Pioneers as Wagoner scores on a reverse layup, followed by another steal from Baumann. Yeadon also had a nice take to the bucket and finished with an AND1. After a couple of turnovers from the Lady Pioneers and some nice buckets from NorthStar, it put NorthStar up by 1 point. NorthStar hits a big 3-pointer, and the Lady Pioneers try to come back, but their 3-point buckets wouldn't fall. NorthStar started eating up the clock, knowing there wasn't much Big Sandy could do besides foul. After some NorthStar free throws, they pulled away with the victory. The Lady Pioneers fell short by 5 points with a final score of 48-53.
Scoring 15 points was Eva Yeadon, and Eva Wagoner added 12. Eva Yeadon had 13 rebounds, and Keira Galbavy and Jai Baumann got nine rebounds each. Angie Sant, Keira Galbavy, and Jai Baumann each had three steals.
