Big Sandy lost to Fort Benton 47-42 never finding their rhythm. The Pioneers found themselves in a hole early; after a very patient offensive, the Fort Benton team jumped ahead with fast break layups and 3-pointers, and the Pioneers were down 3-16. That didn't stop the Pioneers, though. After some big plays from Issac Pedraza, Wylie Snapp, and Braydon Cline, the Pioneers climbed back within 6 points going into the 2nd quarter.
Offensively Big Sandy had the floor spread, which allowed for some great passes and assists that Fort Benton struggled with. After some buckets from Cline and Strutz, the Pioneers were within 3 points, making the score 21-24. After a turnover by Big Sandy and a couple of made buckets, including a 3-pointer by Fort Benton, put the Longhorns up 7 points going into halftime.
The 2nd half was more like the first, with aggressive play on both ends of the floor and some nice takes to the middle for both teams. Both teams' back-and-forth steals and turnovers made for a chaotic quarter. Both teams were low scoring with 9 points each in the 3rd quarter. The Pioneers were still down 7 going into the last stanza.
Fort Benton struggled offensively in the last quarter, only scoring 7 points, and couldn't get into a flow. All Pioneers contributed big plays as well as some big rebounds. After a Cline AND1, the Pioneers officially tied the game at 40. Both teams remained scoreless for over 3 minutes. Fort Benton scored a 3-pointer and knocked down some free throws, putting them back in the driver's seat. The Pioneers had a couple of opportunities to tie the game but fell short. The Longhorns pulled away at the end with a victory with a final score of 47-42.
Big Sandy beat DGS 80-53. The Pioneers started with great defense and ball pressure, which set the tone early for DGS. DGS had a hard time setting anything up offensively, let alone getting into sync with any plays. Big Sandy had great teamwork, with all starters actively involved offensively and defensively. The Pioneers had a nice backdoor play from Wylie Snapp to Kody Strutz. Other offensive plays came from Issac Pedraza and Braydon Cline, with some great takes for scores. The Pioneers went ahead 19-6 in the first quarter.
The second quarter was the Big Sandy Pioneers Show. The boys came out scoring 26 points and outscoring DGS by double. DGS could not stop the Pioneers. Pedraza had a big quarter scoring for the Pioneers. Kody Strutz and Rusty Gasvoda had to leave the game early due to having 3 fouls each. DGS tried their best to shoot several 3-pointers but didn't get to capitalize on them. The Pioneers went into halftime up 21 points with a score of 45-24.
The Pioneers continued their dominance in the 2nd half, outscoring DGS 23-10 in the 3rd quarter. Big Sandy continued to do a 3/4 press up 30 points that DGS couldn't do anything with. The Pioneers won big with a final score of 80-53.
