Top Yielding Spring Wheat Varieties for Chouteau County
MSU Agricultural Research Centers have one test plot for spring wheat in Chouteau county which is managed by MSU Northern Agricultural Research Center (NARC) north of Loma. A special thanks to Peggy Lamb (NARC agronomist) for establishing and maintaining the Chouteau county test plot. The Extension office would also like to thank the McKeever family for donating the use of their land for MSU research.
NARC (Loma area) top three yielding winter wheat varieties (10-year average yield) from 2013-2022 include Dagmar at 39.9 bushels per acre, Vida at 37.2 bushels per acre and WB Gunnison at 34.9 bushels per acre. The top yielding solid stem sawfly-tolerant variety is WB Gunnison followed by Duclair at 34.1 and Choteau at 31.8 bushels per acre. Nutrien Ag Solutions has a plot near Carter Montana. Top three yielding spring wheat varieties for multiple years ( three-year data) were Rocker at 50.8 bushels per acre, Vida at 48 bushels per acre and NS Presser CLP at 47.7 bushels per acre.
