National FFA Week is coming to Big Sandy from February 18th through the 20th. The Big Sandy FFA will be holding various activities and events to celebrate. Due to the event landing during Basketball tournaments for a second consecutive year, plans have been limited to Monday to Wednesday. Last week, the FFA club met to discuss and plan the week.
FFA/America Monday will kick off the week. The club is encouraging everyone to either wear an FFA t-shirt or, if they don't have a FFA t-shirt, to dress up in red, white and blue in celebration of George Washington's birthday. They will being having an AG trivia test for the first period classes. The FFA will also do blue and gold activities during lunch.
Tuesday will be "Tractor Tuesday." Students are encouraged to wear clothes endorsing their favorite tractor company. They are also encouraged to drive their tractors to school. The FFA Club will be serving a pancake breakfast at school that morning and having matchbox tractor races at lunch.
Wednesday will be "Western Wednesday." Students are encouraged to dress up in western clothes. In all likelihood, there will be a send off assembly for the team heading out to district basketball tournaments. The FFA is planning on doing chore day relay races that day as part of the assembly. Chore day relay races include speed dressing in coveralls and muck boots, feeding teammates chocolate milk with calf bottles, carrying heavy buckets across the gym, "ear tagging" with paper plates, putting elastrator bands on old socks, and other farm chore type activities.
Throughout the week, each grade will accumulate points for their acumen in AG trivia, participation in dress up activities, and their success in the various competitions. The class with the most points will win an ice cream party.
