An informational meeting for veterans with free food, drinks and raffles is set for Tuesday, May 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at B Social Bar & Lanes in Fort Benton, hosted by American Legion Henry Griesbach Jr. Post 26.
There will be no pressure to join any organizations or groups, organizer Diane Jones said. Rather, the event is intended to help get the word out to local veterans about new benefits available through the recently-passed PACT Act and other topics of interest. They welcome and encourage all local veterans to attend.
Signed into law by the president in 2022, the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act aims to improve healthcare access for veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during their military service.
Eric Nowakowski of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will share information on the PACT Act VA benefits. Three other speakers will also present. Air Force veteran Patrick Trammelle of the Volunteers of America Northern Rockies will speak on moral injury and soul wounds. Julie Phillips, USMC, of Veterans Inc. will discuss support services for veterans and families.
Also, the Great Falls Development Authority and Small Business Administration will offer resources for helping veterans who own a business or are looking to start one.
