In the Keep Montana Green Art Contest, Heather Sherburn takes 2nd with a beautiful picture of nature. She said, "I was trying to just make a poster about how green and how beautiful it is. The words drown, stir, and feel were required to be used in the project. "I kind of put the words where it matches, like drown is in the river, And then feel was supposed to be like beyond the page because it's going forward."
According to their website, "Keep Montana Green is dedicated to the prevention of human-caused wildfires. Keep Montana Green promotes awareness about the dangers human-caused wildfires can have on Montana's timber, rangelands, the wildland urban interface, and public safety. Education, outreach, and raising awareness to adults and children are a key part of our mission. Yearly educational campaigns are developed and broadcast across Montana. She used Prismacolor--markers and colored pencils with a lot of blending. A copy of the winning poster is posted on the windows of the Big Sandy Cultural Center across from the 1st Bank.
Heather loves art. "Most would say something like it's an escape from your emotions. But for me, it's just something I found to be enjoyable. And it's been with me my whole life, pretty much. And also, my dad used to do it when I was really young, and I aspire to be like him."
She likes mixed media. "Mixed Media is fun because I just get to use all these different materials. I really do like line work. So like in stapling, that's really fun. Like the line work for tattoo designs and other designing stuff."
"I want to go to Bozeman. In the future, if it goes as planned, I will be going to Bozeman for college for art if I get a scholarship from here, which I really hope I do. And I'll work towards that. I'm going to be a tattoo artist's apprentice for the time and then become a tattoo artist, which will pay for my necessities because it's pretty high paying. I already have someone I can go to for a tattoo apprenticeship. Eventually, I want to get into animation."
Heather likes the art teacher, Jessie Jaramillo. "She gives us a wide variety of what to do because, unlike at your house, she has materials you don't get. She teaches you a lot of the basics, and then after that encourages creativity."
Heather also had an art project at the school where the students presented different exhaustion. "Mine was spiritual exhaustion. I'm the only one that did spiritual.
It will be fun to watch Heather continue to grow in her art.
