City Council Member's Filing Deadline is June 19

According to Lana Classen, filing for the City Council Election ends June 19, 2023. On June 2, the following was true. Anyone interested should take action quickly.

Big Sandy Town Council has one opening in Ward 1 and two in Ward 2. Council positions up for election are Richard Jespersen in Ward 1, Krystyl Kulbeck in Ward 2, and Danielle Weaver for an unfulfilled 2-year term in Ward 2. There have been no filings for these council positions.

Seeing who was running for the Fort Benton City Council was interesting. They have one opening in each of their 3 Wards. Council positions up for election are Corey Embleton in Ward 1, Thadius Axtman in Ward 2, and Roger Axtman in Ward 3 (Incumbents). Thadius Axtman and Roger Axtman have both filed for re-election.

Geraldine Town Council is only one Ward, and it has two openings. Council positions up for election are Brad Felger and Monica Rice (Incumbents). Brad Felger has filed for re-election. Michael K. Allison and Morgan Leistiko have also filed.

If you wish to file as a candidate, you must complete a Declaration for Nomination and Oath of Candidacy form and file it at the Clerk and Recorders office along with the filing fee. Big Sandy's filing fee is $30, Fort Benton's is $54, and Geraldine's is $15. You must also complete an online CIA form with the Commissioner of Political Practices. Instructions are provided when you file with the Clerk & Recorder.

Seeing more than one person care about the city council might be interesting. However, we rarely have a Primary Election, which would be required if more than one person ran from each ward. That would be September 12, 2023. The General Election will be on November 7, 2023. If there is only one filing for each council position, then the General Election will be canceled, and the candidates will be elected by acclamation.
