Although winter is usually the season when seniors fear falling and getting injured the most, mainly because of ice and snow, but summer has its own issues and concerns for falls and injuries.
I researched the most reasons for falls in the summer. Dehydration can lead to dizziness which can, in turn, make someone lose their balance and fall. Drinking water is essential. Wet surfaces can be pretty slippery. Rain and watering outside can cause wet surfaces, whether going to a pool for a swim or gardening and watering your yard. It would be best to keep your toolshed and yard tidy, ensuring the garden hose is safely coiled up in and out of the way. Sandals, Flip Flop, and other summer shoes can be difficult to wear and do not give enough support, allowing the ankle to twist and cause a fall. Shoes should have bottoms that are slip resistant. I’ve lost my ability with glare from the sun, so a good set of sunglasses is important for safety reasons.

As people age, the likelihood of falling and being seriously injured in a fall increases due to symptoms of a chronic condition such as dizziness, medication side effects, or changes in vision. Studies have found that someone who is living with dementia is at an increased risk for falling and being injured.”
