Montana Actor’s Theater (MAT) is trying something new with their 2023-2024 productions. On Saturday, August 26th from noon to 5 pm MAT will be holding company auditions for the first half of the coming theater season. This is an opportunity for potential actors to audition for multiple shows at the same time. In addition, it’s a chance for those who have never participated in a MAT production to try out for multiple shows.
According to the MAT homepage, holding auditions for multiple shows simultaneously provides directors an opportunity to collaborate and choose the best fit for the actors across the full array for productions. It will also minimize the overlap in rehearsal schedules for actors cast in multiple roles. “Call backs and secondary auditions for smaller roles may be held. We may also hold another company audition in January for later season shows.”
Those who are interested should visit mtactors.com/auditions, fill out the Audition and Volunteer Form, and submit it via email in advance of the August 26th Company Audition
The auditions will set out to fill both larger and smaller roles, though additional auditions may be held later to fill some of the roles. “This season, we will be casting adults only in most of our shows except for Newsies and The Library, which will feature youth. Youth shows will not be cast at company auditions though all youth are encouraged to attend company auditions to learn more about auditions and volunteer opportunities.”
Andi Daniels, the Marketing and Development Director for MAT, added: “We will have food and drinks available at noon and auditions will start at 1pm. If people are interested in auditioning for something this season but are unable to attend on August 26, they should fill out the Audition and Volunteer form and indicate that they are unable to attend. We will contact them to set up an additional time.”
At the same time, MAT will be holding a volunteer fair for those who are interested in being involved with the theater in a behind-the-scenes capacity. “Interested people are encouraged to attend and learn about opportunities in design, stage crew, lights, sound, ushering, bartending, props, costumes, makeup, painting, and much more. MAT relies on volunteers to put together high-quality shows! Whether you have an hour one day to volunteer or want to be a regular, we will find a place for you in our MAT family.“
For young actors interested in trying out for for Newsies, auditions will be held on August 31 at 4pm at Havre High School. Students eligible for auditioning 8th-12th grade. They do not have to be Havre Public School students to participate. “Audition intensives for youth will be held on August 29 & 30 at 4pm at Havre High School. While not required, we highly encourage youth interested in auditioning for Newsies to attend at least one of these sessions to learn the audition choreography and music. These will not be taught at the regular audition. Auditions for The Library will be held in May 2024.”
