Fall Kickoff is a great way to start the year

By Zoe Merrill

It is always difficult to write an article about an event that happens every year and The Fall Kickoff is now a tradition. I looked for something new to write about and there just wasn't anything, but as I waited for the long food lines to dwindle I enjoyed just watching our community come together to visit and laugh. The children running on the football field playing catch with a football. Dan Schrock, Big Sandy Superintendent, was wearing a red apron and grilling hamburgers along with board members and parents Kelly Rutledge and Brad Weaver. Wendy Taylor told me, "I am not sure how many we served... between 150 and 200 would be my guess." Feeding that many meant long lines.

The weather that day was hot, but it cooled down just in time to make it a wonderful evening.

I am always amazed at how many students go out for fall sports. It's fun to see the 5th and 6th graders being introduced with the junior high Pioneer football team. This year there was a girl in the 5th grade, Cassie Butler, was introduced and all the girls on the sideline cheered real loudly. Cassie got her first tackle against Heart Butte Warriors on Friday. There was a fun moment when the boy's head coach Larry Jappe said, "I'm not sure if you know it, but I would like to introduce you to last year's state champions! He told us that Big Sandy has been rated number 1 in Class C Six-Man football this fall.

Volleyball Coach is excited for this year. The girls are taking off from last year's success. They practiced 30 hours before the season started and are committed to reaching some pretty high goals.

Pioneer gear can still be purchased at Hair I Am in Big Sandy. The current gear is 50% off. Wendy said, "We will have a new order, hopefully, by the middle of October with a new design for this year.

Powderpuff football is always a great time! Wendy said she, "appreciate the girls and moms coming out to play with us. Sometimes us moms forget it's not the Super Bowl! "

The Booster Club has some new officers and has jumped started into the new year! The town loves everything the Booster Club does to give back to the student body at Big Sandy Public Schools. Wendy ended by saying, "Good luck to all the Athletes, FFA, and Music kids this coming year."
