Abollishing Child Sex-Trafficking on the Internet

Many children or young adults believe that the internet is a great place to find opportunities such as modeling. But, they won’t know what is a genuine offer and what is phony. A girl may think that somebody thinks she is gorgeous, and they may tell her that they are going to make her a big star…famous! Little does she know that if she goes through with agreeing to meet and audition, she may never live a normal life again…

On the other hand, this is the reality: she may not become the big star she thought she was going to be. She could end up getting “sex-trafficked.” There have been numerous reports of kids getting “catfished” by males who end up taking them, and they are never found. Sex-trafficking is a very sad thing, and it needs to be talked about more openly. In most sex-traficking cases, the pedophile stalks the victim via the internet. There are many ways he can accomplish that, one of them by pretending to be a teenage boy who likes them, but who will ultimately sell them into sex slavery.

Another instance may be that the traffickers manipulate a child into believing that they are a friend and that they care about the victim more than the child’s parents do. The predator convinces the child to believe that she is living a horrible life and that she needs to come and live with him so he can love and protect her. Often, the girl doesn’t know what to believe, so she believes the pedophile. It is not the girl’s fault; the pedophile took advantage of her vulnerability and led her to believe that he was truly there for her – but he wasn’t.

Studies show that more than 27 million people are sold into human trafficking world-wide each year. In the United States alone, it is estimated that between 15,000-500,000 women and children are sold into sex slavery each year. California is the worst state in the United States for having sex-trafficking cases, coming in with a total of 1,023 cases reported in just this year. (That most likely means there have been way more but just not reported.) There aren’t very accurate studies on the numbers, and the range varies greatly state-to-state because nobody knows exactly how many kids really have been taken into sex-trafficking(Elliott Davis).

I believe that all parents need to educate their children on the dangers of sex-trafficking. Somebody needs to take a stand, and that starts with parents warning their children of the dangerous on the internet and how there can be a mask over people that they talk to on social media sites. I believe that everybody should watch the movie Sound of Freedom. Although that movie is extremely sad, it is very educational and can teach people, both young and old, a great deal about the absolute horror of sex-trafficking.
