Senior Center News

As the leaves start to fall and the weather starts to change, we invite you to join us at the senior center.

Coffee is ready by 8:30 am Monday-Friday and on Thursdays for $3.00 you can add a nice warm caramel roll or maple bar while enjoying the company of your fellow community members. Lunch is always ready by 12 noon, and you are more than welcome to call in your order by 10am and it will be ready for pick up at 11:30. For those over 60 who live in town and have no way of getting to the center or you’re sick and getting out is just out of the question, give us a call and we will deliver your meals to you.

In our previous article I mentioned that activities would be starting up come fall. We have already planned a few. The first activity to start is pinochle. Pinochle will be every Wednesday starting September 20th at 2pm. Bible study will resume every other Friday starting October 13 at 11am. On Friday October 27th we will be having a spaghetti dinner, cake walk and Bingo starting at 5pm. Dinner will be $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for children under 10 years of age. Cakewalk will be $1.00 per ticket and bingo $3.00 a card or 2 for $5.00. This should be a night of fun for the whole family. We are hoping Dinner and bingo goes over well so we can hold a family fun night at least once per month. Also, on October 5th, the first day of the medical Guild Rummage sale we will be serving Super Nachos on day 2 we will be serving ground beef Philly cheese steak sandwich. We hope to see you for lunch.

A few ideas that we are playing with are pumpkin carving, painting, or decorating. I am going to see if we can get pumpkins donated and then set a date. The idea is to have an ice cream social with pumpkin carving, and popcorn ball making. Once I have more information, we will get it out to you. If you know of anybody willing to donate pumpkins, please let us know.

Some community members may think that we are just another senior center but that is far from what we are. We are a senior center, that is true, but we are also part of Big Sandy’s tight knit community therefore offering many of our services to the entire community. Why? Because we believe that small towns survive on the tightness of the community. Therefore, we will continue to invite everybody to come have a cup of coffee or more for $1.00, enjoy a hot meal for $6.00 while enjoying the company of friends, family and/or neighbors and who knows you may even meet somebody who’s new to Big Sandy. Our hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 to 2pm.

On a financial note, we received our new contract for the year 2023-2024 and it was a little disappointing to see that the funding was less than last year. It just means we will have to work harder at getting our numbers up, creating family events, offering baked goods for sale along with reaching out to the community for donations of any kind or amount. If you have any ideas or suggestions, we would really appreciate you sharing them with us. We are also in need of volunteers, so if you have an extra hour or two each week, give us a call 406-378-2405. We’d love to have you as a volunteer.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that we post our menu on Facebook (Big Sandy senior center 2022) please join and like our page. We also post in the marketplace on Facebook daily, this has worked quite well as we now have customers or as I like to say new friends from Box Elder and Rocky Boy.

We hope to see many new faces in the days to come.
