Lady Pioneers win twice

The Lady Pioneers had a great weekend of volleyball! They had some very hard-fought battles and overcame some adversity to come out on top twice. The first game they had was September 7th hosting Box Elder. The Lady Bears of Box Elder were first to serve, scoring a quick 3 points. Eva Yeadon was the first to serve for Big Sandy, and they went on a run! With some great serves, some nice hits by Eva Yeadon and Keria Galbavy, and a tip by Jai Baumann, the Lady Pioneers went up 11-3. After a couple of good digs and hustle plays, the Lady Bears scored a quick couple of points. The Lady Pioneers were on fire though, with kills from Eva, and Keira, and some great saves, the girls went up 23-5. Box Elder tried to stay in the fight and battled for a few points, but Keira was very good at reading the net and making good decisions, putting the Lady Bears away with a win of 25-9.

The second and third matches were very much the same with the Lady Pioneers playing very strong and tenacious, and winning both matches with scores of 25-12, and 25-11. The Lady Pioneers had a total of 31 digs, with Jenny Sant and Jai each having 7 each. The team also had 25 assists with Jai having 12 of those. The Lady Pioneers had 32 kills with Eva having 13 of them. There were also 11 aces in the game, with Eva having 6 of those. The team also had 2 blocks with Eva and Keira each having one.

The Big Sandy Lady Pioneers then traveled to the Highwood Mountaineers on September 8th, where they also came out victorious, playing 4 out of 5 sets. Every match was intense and so much fun to watch! Both teams worked so hard and had so many great hustle plays, to keep their team in it. The Lady Pioneers especially showed grit, and diligence with their teamwork. Their communication helped tremendously with how successful they were on the court. In the first set, the Lady Pioneers won 25-21. In the second set, the girls came out strong again, but The Lady Mountaineers had some great serves, good blocks, and nice kills to keep them in the set. Highwood came out on top in the second set with a score of 26-24.

The Lady Pioneers continued to battle and have great teamwork, finishing off the Lady Mountaineers in the last two sets with a score of 25-18, and 25-22. The team ended up with 105 digs, with Jai Baumann having 32 of those. Jai also had 24 of the team’s 40 assists. Keira Galbavy and Eva Yeadon both had 19 kills of the team’s total 43 kills. The Lady Pioneers also had 6 blocks with Keira having 4 of those. The team finished with 7 aces, with Jai having 3 of those.

When asked how she felt about the games this weekend, Coach Britany McKenney said, “Overall, I am happy with our performance this week. We are now 3-0 and continuing to improve each day. We still have a lot of work to do, but I am excited to watch our progression!
