Last week the Predictor said Big Sandy would lose. The Pioneer football team was supposed to have a “hard time beating” the Dutton-Brady Titans. Well, with senior leaders Cooper Taylor and Jake Darlington back in the lineup, the Pioneers proved those people wrong by beating the Titans with a score of 48-8.
Coach Tucker Taylor said, “The boys finally put together a full team effort in the victory over power. It was good to see the team perform well in an important game. We’ll need those same efforts in the coming weeks.”
The Pioneers started the game with the ball, and Cooper Taylor got a first down in the 1st play of the game. Sam Cox also got a first down in the first series of play. A Pioneer penalty pushed the Pioneers back to have a 2nd down with 23 yards to go, and eventually a 4th down and 13 yards to go. Lane Demontiney, who is the king of scrambling for yards, does his magic once again, and throws a deep throw to Karter Jurenka for a touchdown. This put the Pioneers first on the board with a score of 6-0. The Titans then get their chance to try and score, which ensues a big 1st down for them, but after a big tackle from Ryder Galbavy for a loss of yards, the Titans are now trying for a 3rd down and 20 yards to go. As they draw back to throw, Karter almost has an interception, which in turn forces Dutton-Brady to punt. Following a Dutton-Brady punt, the Pioneers are also forced to punt on their next drive, and with a big tackle from Karter, it ends the quarter with the Pioneers up 6-0.
Dutton-Brady started the 2nd quarter turning the ball over on downs, just a few yards short of a touchdown, due to the impressive defensive hold by the Pioneers. The Pioneers then in turn got the ball back and had an impressive series of downs. Cooper ran for a 1st down, a great pass from Jake to an incredible catch from Cooper for a 20 yard run, a strong run from Sam just shy of a touchdown, to a handoff to Lane for a touchdown, putting the score 12-0. Dutton-Brady had a rough series, and had to punt. When the Pioneers got the ball back, Cooper had another impressive 40 yard run for a touchdown, and with a Ty Terry good kick, that put the Pioneers up 20-0. Dutton-Brady continued to fight though, and got the ball back, and ran an unbelievable 70 yard run for a touchdown, putting the score at 20-8. With the ball back, Big Sandy found themselves in a 3rd and 12 situation, with an outstanding diving catch from Karter for a 1st down. Which led to a handoff to Cooper, just shy of a touchdown, but again back to Cooper to finish the touchdown, and a Ty Terry kick made the Pioneers up 28-8. Dutton-Brady had one more chance to try in the 3rd quarter, but ran out of time.
Wes Cox started it off for the Pioneers in the second half with a great interception. Lane had a great play for a 1st down, and another great throw from Lane to Karter for another 1st down. Then followed was a pitch to Lane for a touchdown and another Ty Terry good kick, putting the Pioneers up 36-8. Dutton-Brady had a great push down the field, but Karter had a great pick six, to put the Pioneers even further in the lead at 42-6.
Dutton–Brady started the 4th quarter with a turnover on downs, leaving the Pioneers in great field position with only 20 seconds off the game clock, Jake threw a great pass to Cooper who scored his 3rd touchdown of the game. The clock was not Dutton-Brady’s friend, and they could not capitalize on their plays with the Pioneer’s intense defense, and the game ended with the Pioneers winning 48-8.
