Senior Center News

WITH A BLINK OF THE EYE THE YEAR HAS COME TO AN END AND CHRISTMAS IS ONLY A FEW WEEKS AWAY.

November proved to be a busy month here at the senior center. We started our month with preparations for our Veterans Day lunch. We served roughly 75 meals with half of them being take out meals. Everyone seemed to enjoy the good old rib dinner. We would like to thank Marlys at Agri Prairie for her donation of meals to all veterans. The following week we had a non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner of pork loin and all the fixings. We served roughly 60 meals and once again close to half were takeout. Our thought was most everyone has turkey on Thanksgiving, and we didn't want anyone to be tired of turkey before Thanksgiving Day.

With the month of November came preparations for the Christmas stroll. The senior center volunteers and staff decorated, created menus, shopped, baked, and prepared for their second year of Breakfast with Santa. It was a very busy time but, in the end, everything came together, and the event went off without a hitch. We are so thankful for the volunteers who helped. Thank you to Rick Darlington for Flippen cakes and Bill Kliensser for scrambling eggs, Brenda Darlington for filling into all areas, Rhonda Works for helping with the raffle and bake sale along with our assistant cook Carol Ramberg for all she did. We would also like to give a shoutout to our twin elves Emma and Ella, along with their mom, Erika. Finally thank you Holdon for being one of Santas helpers. As we all know without Santas helpers the children around the world wouldn't be able to sit on Santas lap and tell him a what they want for Christmas.

Now that the stroll is behind us, We have started sending out personalized letters from Santa to those children who send in their letters. So far, we have sent out 4 letters, one of them went to the state of Texas. It has been on the local news that Big Sandy Senior Center is sending out letters from Santa for $2.00 plus a self-addressed stamped envelope. Letters from Santa will be the last fundraiser for 2023. I hope the children enjoy these letters as I plan to continue sending letters from Santa yearly. For many years I have wanted to do this and figured why not this year.

As we start the new year, I am asking for your feedback on how you feel the center is doing. I am interested in constructive criticism along with compliments, suggestions and any other impute you would like to share. Please don't be shy, we really would like to hear from you. You can email me at Robincloyer94@gmail.com, call 406-378-2405, or private message me on Facebook "big sandy senior center 22". We are also hoping to find a few new volunteers to help In 2024. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer.

With the year coming to an end, we welcome the new year. Remember 2024, will be only as good as chooses it to be.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
