Please read this. This is important. Everyone should check to make sure they have a couple working carbon monoxide detectors in their house. Erica had put one in the house a couple of years ago. Erica and some of the kids had headaches yesterday. They thought it was just a bug going around. The detector went off last night as we all were going to bed. Changed the batteries and it went off again. I checked my furnace exhaust and it was free flowing. Got another detector as there must be something wrong with the first detector. The second detector went off. We got a third detector and it went off. I then knew we had a problem. It was not faulty detectors. I went back outside and checked the exhaust again and stuck my hand up the intake and it was plugged with snow at the elbow. It was not sucking fresh air into our house. You could not see it from just looking at it. I am very thankful for the detector. If it were not for that detector we would have all went to bed last night with the house filling with gas and never had any idea. Everything was operating properly in the house. There were no signs of any problems. If it was not for that detector we would have never known we had a problem until it was to late. I am not writing this to show off our eventful night blow by blow, but to make people aware of the importance of carbon dioxide detectors. We hear about carbon monoxide poisoning but never think it is going to happen to us until it does. I could not, Not share this experience as hoping it will help someone else. We get to busy fighting this cold weather that sometimes simple things like checking your detector gets put off till I have time. Please read this and go find your detector and check it and buy a second if you only have one. I will be installing a detector in every building with a furnace. Erica saved our family again.”
