The Pioneer boys team came to an unfortunate end this past weekend at Districts. The Pioneers first played Turner and lost with a score of 43-58. They then played Hays and won with a score of 78-66 before playing Fort Benton and losing with a score of 52-66. The Pioneers worked hard this season and improved every game.
The Pioneer's first game was against Turner, and both teams were rusty-looking. Turner was the first to score, but it took 2 minutes to score, and Ryder Galbavy was the first to score for the Pioneers after 4 minutes of the clock had expired. Lane also scored on a take to the basket, but unfortunately, the Pioneers only had 4 points on the board after the first quarter. The score was 4-14 going into the 2nd quarter.
Lane had another 5 points, and Eli Dixon had a free-throw, but the Pioneers couldn't find a groove and were outscored 6-20, going into halftime down 14 points.
The Pioneers came out of halftime with some grit and did their best to work themselves back into the game with a great 3-pointer from Eyon Sherburn, as well as a bucket on an out-of-bounds play; Lane scored another 7 points, and Aidan Morsette had a nice take, but the Pioneers still were down 17 points going into the 4th quarter, even after a big quarter of scoring with 18 points.
The Pioneers saw a glimmer of hope when they pulled together a nice run to put themselves within distance, only being down 11 points, but the clock was not their friend, and the Pioneers ran out of time while they were making a comeback and ended up losing by 15 points with a final score of 43-58.
Lane was the high scorer with 22 points, and Eyon had 13. Ryder was the high rebounder with 7 rebounds.
The Pioneers then faced a loser-out game against Hays. The Pioneers were at the free-throw line 34 times in the game. Lane had a great game with 45 points, and Ryder was the second-leading scorer with 10 points. Lane, Ryder, and Karter Jurenka all had 9 rebounds each in the game. Once again, this was a tough game for the Pioneers at times, but they pulled ahead, gave it all they got, and finished with a win. The Pioneers won by 12 points, with a final score of 78-66.
The Pioneers then turned around and played Fort Benton in a loser-out action game.
The Pioneers came out ready to play and started strong. They kept the momentum going and were up a large majority of the first half. Karter was a huge threat on the boards for the Pioneers, and Aidan Morsette had a great night of shooting. The Pioneers even had a lead of 8 points at one time, but Fort Benton was giving up and ending up tying the game going into halftime with a score of 32-32.
The second half was all Pioneers in the first couple of minutes, but Fort Benton caused the Pioneers to turn the ball over a couple of times and then found a way to score, and the Longhorns took the lead in the 3rd quarter. From that point on, Fort Benton and the Longhorns outscored
the Pioneers 24-9 in the 3rd quarter, putting the Longhorns on top by 15 points. The Pioneers went down going into the final quarter with a score of 41-56.
Fort Benton didn't let up, and the Pioneers couldn't find their groove, and their season ended with a loss against Fort Benton. The final score was Pioneers with 52 points and Fort Benton with 66.
High Scorers were Lane with 19 and Aidan with 11. Karter Jurenka was the high rebounder with 14 rebounds. Ryder had the most steals with 4.
Way to work hard this season, Pioneers. It was a lot of fun watching all of you. Keep working hard to get better, and I can't wait to watch everyone next season.
