Community input needed for the Public Library Standards

All Montanans deserve access to library services that meet their needs. The public library standards identify a base level of service that residents and visitors should receive wherever they are in Montana. To be eligible for state funding, libraries must meet the public library standards.

One standard currently being focused on by the Chouteau County library system is number 8:

"The public library board, in consultation with the director, shall identify in writing what they want to accomplish in the next three to five years, and that plan shall be focused on meeting community needs. The board and director shall annually review their plan and progress made."

One way that Director Emily Wicks, along with the current board of trustees, is meeting this standard, is by offering a county-wide survey. Please see the attached QR code to complete the online survey. Other options include visiting any of the libraries in Chouteau County for assistance on a computer or by requesting a paper copy of the survey.

This survey is not limited to one per household, by age, or by library card holder status. Anyone who lives in Chouteau County is invited to complete the survey one time.

The survey will be available May 28 through August 30. At the conclusion of the survey window, the information submitted will be compiled and a report will be given to the board of trustees at the September meeting. The results will also be available upon request at all of the Chouteau County branch libraries.
