Parts of Big Sandy flooded during the last storm. Mayor Shaud Schwarzbach reported, "It was a bad gate valve on the states culvert. We used to be able to slow water down, but it wouldn't work. They will be talking to the state on Monday to see if the city can buy a new one or see who really owns it." They had to start pumping it back over the dike to help get that part back on dry ground. "It was a 50-100 year event that nobody could have planned for. I feel terrible for the people, but not much we could do."
