Big Sandy School District Summer Food Program
Dear Big Sandy Community Members:
I wanted to write and inform the public of the status of our new Summer Food Program that was started here in Big Sandy this summer to help meet the dietary needs of children in our community, aged 1-18 during the summer months. This program is federally funded by the Department of Agriculture and is administered by the Montana Office of Public Instruction.
Children Served
Week 1: 130, Week 2: 170, Week 3: 180, Week 4: 193
This has been a big undertaking and as such there are many who have played a part in making this a successful venture that benefits the children in our community and their parents. Big Sandy School District Business Manager, Mrs. Mary Merrill, has been instrumental in bringing this to our kids and community and has undergone extensive training in how to administer this program successfully and has worked closely with Head Cook Mrs. Lianna Heimbigner and Assistant Cook Mrs. Jessica Butler, who runs the day-to-day operations of the program. Mrs. Cheryl Strutz and Ms. Suzanna Johnson have also been a big help in packing groceries in support of Mrs. Butler and the program. I also owe a special thank you to BSHS student Chase Gasvoda for his assistance.
We have made a point to keep the resources funding this program in the community and that involves placing our orders with The Store and their support and assistance has been greatly appreciated as well.
This has been a team effort to make this happen and as such, I owe it to our teammates to publicly thank them for the positive impact that they have made in working together for the best interests of our children and community.
If you are interested in signing up for the Summer Food Program, or have any questions about this program, please reach out to Assistant Cook Mrs. Jessica Butler at (406) 378-2604 or via email at jbutler@bigsandy.k12.mt.us
Respectfully,
Daniel Schrock
Superintendent
